فَاِمنُن بِبَعض المَن لِلحُكَماء
The honey of the lips is sweet with wholesome healing;
The lips testified to the sweetness of healing
So bestow some of that bounty on the physicians.
So believe in giving some favor to the wise

And your dusky lips earn reward enough [uncertain reading] if they free them
And suffice you the reward if it enriches them
From every useful treatment and medicine.
From every beneficial medicine and remedy

And the reward of your mouth's nectar suffices you: it is
And suffice you the reward of your mouth's pleasure if it
The water of life, and the dispeller of hardship.
Is the water of life and elevates aspirations
اِنindeed الجَميلَthe Beautiful One لَقَدcertainly حَباكَhas bestowed upon you جَميلُهHis beauty

The Beautiful One has indeed bestowed His beauty upon you;
Indeed, the beautiful one has gifted you his beauty
So be generous, and do not withhold this blessing.
So believe and do not be stingy with the generous one

And when the love-stricken one comes to you, burning within,
And if the passionate youth comes to you
His sighs like heat from sun-scorched ground,
His sighs are a kind of burning
وَرَأَيتand you see لَوعَتِهِhis anguish عَلَيهِover him تَغَلَّبَتhas prevailed

And you see his anguish has overwhelmed him,
And you see his fervor has overcome him
In longing for that far-off nectar,
Yearning for that distant sweet nectar

Then grant him a sip or a breath
So believe in granting him a sip or breath
Of Luqman's spirit, so that he may attain his hope.
From Luqman's soul to kindle hope

And when you see that love, through the pain of yearning,
And if you see love has weakened his strength with the agony of passion
Has shattered strength through the harsh trials of affliction,
Give him iron morsels generously

Offer him iron sulfate, as a kindness,
From your heart that is dry of all acceptance
From your hard heart, with full willingness.
For God's sake, O hard eyebrows that

كَم جَندَلَت ظُلما مِن الشُهَداء
How splendid, by God, your eyebrow's bows, which
Have wrongfully slain many martyrs
Have unjustly felled so many martyrs!
You may be astonished at the strangeness of their words
قَدindeed تُهتI was bewildered عَجباin wonder فيat غَرابَةِthe strangeness of قَولِهِمtheir saying

اِنَّ الرَشا الرامي مِن السُعَداء
Indeed, I am lost in wonder at their strange saying:
That the happy thrower shoots his arrows
That the archer-gazelle is among the fortunate.
So for the sake of those sleepy ones and what

مِن يَقَظَة أَصمت بِها أَحشائي
So, by those languid eyes and what they possess
Makes my insides silent but their vigilance
Of wakefulness, by which my inward parts were struck dead,
I leaned towards the heart of a deprived lover
اِلّاwill you not عَطَفتtake pity عَلىon فُؤادa heart مُتيمenslaved by love

دَنف الحَشاد اِنّي المحبة نائي
Will you not take pity on a heart enslaved by love,
The warmth of love, I am deprived indeed
Sick at heart [unclear text]—indeed, I am far away in love?
How I ransom you with the sweetness of my willing life

How often I willingly ransom you with the sweetness of my life,
From every harm I have tasted and fatigue
From every hardship you have tasted, and every ordeal!
O how often my misfortunes clashed with you
ياoh طالَماhow often صادَمتI have clashed with فيكَfor your sake عَواذِليmy female reproachers

Oh, how often I have clashed with my reproachers for your sake,
And I lowered my garment covering my blood
And let my robe fall to conceal my blood!
So by the one who shed the blood of the family of love with

So, by the one who shed the blood of love's kin, with
Good acceptance and your love is my allegiance
Gracious acceptance, and granted you command over my allegiance,
Do not be stingy with the ointment of closeness which

Do not withhold the salve of nearness, which
Is the utmost of my medicine and essence of my remedy
Is my ultimate treatment and my very remedy.
And show kindness to the youth who ransomed you with his soul

And take pity on a lover who ransomed you with his own life;
My Creator guides you to fulfill my allegiance
May my Creator guide you to the beauty of my fidelity.
