ياO لَيلnight هاbehold أَناI فيكَin you ساهdistracted ساهِرwakeful
يا لَيل ها أَنا فيكَ ساه ساهِر
وَلِعِزَّةand at the pride of المَحبوبِthe beloved شاكَcomplaining شاكِرgrateful
وَلِعِزَّة المَحبوبِ شاكَ شاكِر
O night, here I am within you, distracted and wakeful,
O night here I am in you wandering wandering awake
And at the beloved's pride, complaining yet grateful.
And for the glory of the beloved doubtful thankful
ياO لَيلnight قَدindeed أَيقَنتَyou have become certain اِنَّكَthat you are كافِرfaithless
يا لَيل قَد أَيقَنتَ اِنَّكَ كافِر
اِذsince لَمdid not يَكُنbe ليfor me منfrom دجاكَyour darkness رَحيمa merciful one
اِذ لَم يَكُن لي من دجاكَ رَحيم
O night, you have come to know for certain that you are faithless,
O night I was convinced you are an infidel
For from your darkness there was none to show me mercy.
When there was no mercy for me from your darkness
