عَقَدت عَزمي وَهَم حلوا عَزائِمِهِم

عَقَدت عَزمي وَهَم حلوا عَزائِمِهِم

وَفي العَزائِمِ مَحلول وَمَعقود

وَفي العَزائِمِ مَحلول وَمَعقود

I bound my resolve, while they loosened theirs;

I am determined though they have given up all determination

and among resolves are the loosened and the bound.

In determination there is fulfillment and binding

ما طابَقوا حينَ لَم يَبدوا مُجانَسَة

ما طابَقوا حينَ لَم يَبدوا مُجانَسَة

وَلا تُشابِه مَعدوم وَمَوجود

وَلا تُشابِه مَعدوم وَمَوجود

They did not agree when they showed no affinity;

They were not in harmony when their affinity was not apparent

nor do the nonexistent and the existent resemble one another.

Nor is there similarity between absent and present

أَبدى اِئتِلافاً وَيُبدون الخَلافَ وَقَد

أَبدى اِئتِلافاً وَيُبدون الخَلافَ وَقَد

غَدا لَهُم في جُيوشِ الهَجر تَجريد

غَدا لَهُم في جُيوشِ الهَجر تَجريد

I show concord, while they show discord; and already

I showed agreement while they revealed disagreement after

they have mustered troops in the armies of estrangement.

Armies of estrangement for them began to mobilize

وَكَم أُقابِلهم مُستَنجِزا وَلَهُم

وَكَم أُقابِلهم مُستَنجِزا وَلَهُم

لِسوءِ حظى في الاِعراضِ تَرديد

لِسوءِ حظى في الاِعراضِ تَرديد

And how often I meet them, seeking fulfillment, while they,

And how often I face them intent on fulfilling while they

to my ill fortune, turn away again and again.

Due to my misfortune in disinterest turn away

لَو لِلسَّعادَةِ عين في مُساعَدَتي

لَو لِلسَّعادَةِ عين في مُساعَدَتي

ما كانَ لي ساعد بِالطوق مَشدود

ما كانَ لي ساعد بِالطوق مَشدود

If Fortune had an eye to helping me,

If fortune had an eye to aid me

my forearm would not be bound to the collar.

My neck would not be confined in a collar
