جَل الذى زان الجَباه بطرة

جَل الذى زان الجَباه بطرة

من تَحتِها لمع الهِلال بغرة

من تَحتِها لمع الهِلال بغرة

Exalted is He who adorned foreheads with a forelock;

From beneath it, the crescent gleamed upon a radiant brow.

كَم باتَ يَهديني بِاِعظَمِ حَسرَة

كَم باتَ يَهديني بِاِعظَمِ حَسرَة

وَعَذاب قَلبي في هَواهُ أَليم

وَعَذاب قَلبي في هَواهُ أَليم

How often he spent the night bringing me the deepest sorrow!

And my heart’s torment in loving him is grievous.
