O grave, rejoice in her whom you have taken into your keeping.
She is a pearl, shining brightly in its casket.

Calamity-bearing time betrayed her, and she began
To drain the cups of wasting sickness.

She tasted the bitterness of illness from childhood,
Until her days were spent in pain.

She departed, her blood drained by hemorrhage,
And the heart breaks apart in its anguish.

Many a physician never wearied, and time and again
Treated her, yet her illness raged on.

How many a night she kept vigil with its star,
And moaned at what her ribs contained.

Until God's command came to her: “Enter
A grave”—and God's command cannot be recalled.

O Lord, make the Garden of Refuge for her
A home whose sweet bliss she may enjoy.

Out of grace, though tears have already watered them.

Blessed is whoever drinks his fill from their river.

O wellspring of separation, let what has happened suffice!
For our eyes have sworn never to sleep.

What ails this age, that it brings sudden grief to
Our minds? And how often it afflicts us with sorrow!

ياoh لَيتَwould that روحىmy soul وَدعتhad bidden farewell اِذwhen وَدَعواthey bade farewell
The loved ones have gone, and their mounts have set out.
Oh, would that my soul had said farewell when they did!

Oh, would that they had asked for ransom—here is
My soul! But “if only” is of no avail.

And the will of the Lord—exalted be His majesty—
Has decreed this for us; what, then, can we do?
