The cupbearer swayed like a bough in the garden of youth,
And at his swaying the people sprang to their feet.

The waterwheels of his onlookers' eyes revolved,
As a river flowed from my eyelid and the corners of my eyes.

And the tender narcissus lowered its gaze in shyness,
And swayed like one in fear and apprehension.

It emerged in a robe of sorrows, dark as night.

And the lily, enraged by the roses' laughter, had
Torn its cheeks, finding none to protect it.

And the bouquet of wild roses closed its eyes in grief,
Then, frightened, began complaining to the Everlasting.

To flow with a heart throbbing with immense longing.

Recited over it, in fear, a charm-reciter's incantation.

If such was the flowers' state in wonder,
Then how fares a brother to passion and longing?

I would ransom him, as he sobered from his drunkenness at dawn,
While a trace of wine still lingered on his cheek.

And his waist complained of frailty to a yearning lover.

So I sought refuge in my Creator from his piercing glance.
