لَم يدر معنى الحُب اِلّا من غَدا
يُبديhe displays البَشاشَةcheerfulness وَالهاlovesick متسهداsleepless
يُبدي البَشاشَة وَالها متسهدا
None knows the meaning of love except one who goes about
None has known the meaning of love except one who has come to
showing a cheerful face, though passion keeps him sleepless—
show cheerfulness while lovesick and sleepless.
كَمhow often ذابَhe melted مِنfrom زَفَراتِهِhis sighs متجلِّداstriving to endure
كَم ذابَ مِن زَفَراتِهِ متجلِّدا
وَيَقولand he says طوعاwillingly اِنَّهُindeed it is لنَعيمsurely bliss
وَيَقول طوعا اِنَّهُ لنَعيم
how often he has melted from his sighs while holding fast—
How often he has melted from his sighs, striving to endure,
and willingly says, “It is bliss indeed.”
and willingly says that it is bliss indeed.
