He conquered my heart, though he has forsaken me—

The full moon of beauty, ever since he appeared.

    Sweet of saliva, slender-waisted,

He captivates the love-stricken with dark, wide eyes.

What recourse have I in loving him

But submission to what he commands?

Who will rescue me, when his eyelids

    Put the lover in peril?

Alas, my bewilderment in loving him!

Oh, how long my sorrow in bashful reserve!

I complain of passion, and so does

    An eyelid tormented by sleeplessness.

O heart, enough of what has happened!

You have burned my body with sparks.

The beloved wished wasting sickness upon you.

Why this, when you are his dwelling?

    But love's torment—

The grief-stricken have no escape from it.

    You met him swaying gracefully—

    What a proudly swaying bough!

    And you saw him smiling,

Like the full moon when it unveiled itself.

    فَاِحكُم وَنفذ ما أَمَر

    O full moon, love has made you ruler;

So rule, and carry out what it has commanded.

Cast off the sash and let me

Burn in a raging fire in Saqar.

    وَلاِنت أَولى من عُذر

    And do not ask about the cheek-down;

And you indeed are most deserving of pardon.

    And leave darkness upon radiance,

And veil the radiant brows with your forelock.

With it, they rivaled the mouth that

Parts in a smile to reveal precious pearls.

    And proclaim your beauty; boast

Proudly of your neck and forelocks.

    For the sun blushes when

You appear, and the moon grows shy.
