And live forever among the gods of the arts.

I chant my poems of you, and listen
To your sweet, tender refrain.

And in your praise I string, from the beads of my heart,
Meanings of longing and sorrowful love.

I was denied your temple, yet alone I found bliss
In your spirit: I captivate it, and it captivates me.

You unveiled before my gaze the garden of meanings,
So my imagination sang among the boughs,

And repeated some of my songs of you, until
The scent of longing drifted through the air.

And can I scent the breath of songs
Without hearing my own lament along their course?
