O you who have readied yourself to rise to office,
And sought through the council a path to profit,
لاdo not تَطمَعَنever aspire فيهاto it فَلَستَfor you are not بِأَهلِهاworthy of it
لاnot تَصلُحُis suited الشُّورَىthe council لِعَقلِto the mind of مُؤَدِّبِa tutor
Do not covet it, for you are not worthy of it;
The council is not suited to a tutor's mind.

You prepared a petition for it before acquiring knowledge,
So you were denied it—are you, I wonder, still unrefined?
