أبْصَرَتنيshe saw me أسرِعُI quicken الخطوَthe pace اشتياقاout of longing
أبْصَرَتني أسرِعُ الخطوَ اشتياقا
أتحدَّىI challenge الريحَthe wind للوَصْلِfor union استباقاracing ahead
أتحدَّى الريحَ للوَصْلِ استباقا
She saw me quickening my pace in longing,
She saw me hastening my steps, longing
Challenging the wind in a race toward union.
To challenge the wind to reach her first
فأشارتthen she gestured بيَدَيْهاwith both her hands عُدْgo back فإنيfor I
فأشارت بيَدَيْها عُدْ فإني
لستُI am not أسْطيعُI am able عنfrom القيدِthe bonds فراقاseparation
لستُ أسْطيعُ عن القيدِ فراقا
Then she gestured with both her hands: “Go back, for I
She gestured with her hands, go back
Cannot break free of the bonds.”
For I cannot free myself of my shackles
قلتُI said: ياO فاتنتيmy enchantress أتْعَبنيhas wearied me
قلتُ: يا فاتنتي أتْعَبني
زمنٌan age أقْسَمَswore ألاَّthat ... not نتَلاقىwe meet
زمنٌ أقْسَمَ ألاَّ نتَلاقى
I said: “O my enchantress, I have been wearied
I said: My beauty, you exhaust me
By an age that swore we would not meet.
Time has sworn we shall not meet
أعْيُنٌeyes تَسْهَرُkeep vigil حوليaround me رَصَداًlying in wait
أعْيُنٌ تَسْهَرُ حولي رَصَداً
وأقامتْand they have set up دونَbefore منthe one whom أهوىI love نطاقاa cordon
وأقامتْ دونَ من أهوى نطاقا
Eyes keep vigil around me, lying in wait,
Eyes keep vigil around me, watching
And have set a cordon between me and the one I love.”
And erect a barrier from my beloved
