قالتْ رايتُكَ تستجدي يدَ الكَسل

قالتْ رايتُكَ تستجدي يدَ الكَسل

تنامُ مُلْتحِفاً بالهَمِّ والوَجَل

تنامُ مُلْتحِفاً بالهَمِّ والوَجَل

She said: I saw you seeking alms from the hand of sloth,

She said, "I saw you begging the hand of laziness,

you sleep wrapped in worry and dread.

Sleeping wrapped in worries and unrest.

إنْ راودَتكَ المُنى يوماً لتَصْحَبها

إنْ راودَتكَ المُنى يوماً لتَصْحَبها

جَرَّعْتَها غُصَصَ التسويفِ والمَلَلِ

جَرَّعْتَها غُصَصَ التسويفِ والمَلَلِ

If hopes one day enticed you to accompany them,

If dreams called on you one day to accompany them,

you made them swallow the choking pangs of procrastination and boredom.

You would make them drink the bitterness of procrastination and boredom.

فقلتُ تِلْكَ دعاياتٌ مُلَفَّقةٌ

فقلتُ تِلْكَ دعاياتٌ مُلَفَّقةٌ

أنتِ التي شوَّهَتْ من سيرتي مُثُلى

أنتِ التي شوَّهَتْ من سيرتي مُثُلى

So I said: That is fabricated propaganda;

So I said, 'Those are fabricated allegations,

you are the one who marred my life's ideals.

You who have distorted the ideal image of me.'

تَرَكْتِها ونيوبُ الكَيْدَ تنْهشُها

تَرَكْتِها ونيوبُ الكَيْدَ تنْهشُها

صريعةَ البَسَماتِ الصُّفْرِ والحِيَلِ

صريعةَ البَسَماتِ الصُّفْرِ والحِيَلِ

You left them, with the fangs of malice tearing at them,

You left it while the fangs of malice tore it apart,

slain by yellow smiles and wiles.

A victim of jaundiced smiles and cunning."
