ماwhat الذيthat which فيكَin you ايُّهاO العيدُEid أهديI offer as a gift
ونَصيبيand my share نof (apparently truncated from من) الهَوىlove غيرُnot مُجْدِbeneficial
What shall I offer on your day, O Eid,
when my share of love is of no avail?
كيفَhow ألقاكَshall I meet you والمشاعرُwhile the feelings كَلْمىwounded
وسياطُand the whips العذابof torment ينْسِجْنَthey weave بُرديmy mantle
How shall I meet you while feelings lie wounded,
and the whips of torment weave my mantle?
جئتَyou came ياO عيدُEid مسرفاًgoing to excess فيin امتهانيhumiliating me
حاملاًbearing فيin يديكَyour two hands نعْشيmy bier ولَحْديand my grave
You came, O Eid, going to excess in humiliating me,
bearing in your hands my bier and my grave.
ألأنِّيis it because I عَبَرتُI crossed جَسْرَthe bridge of التَّحديdefiance
شامخاًwith head held high تُعْلِنُyou proclaim الضَّغينةَrancor ضِديagainst me؟
Is it because I crossed the bridge of defiance
with head held high, that you proclaim your rancor against me?
