فيat كلِّevery مُنْعطفٍbend تموتُdies أمُومةٌmotherhood
في كلِّ مُنْعطفٍ تموتُ أمُومةٌ
وأبوَّةٌand fatherhood ترِدُcomes to الحياضَthe watering pools وتنتهيand ends
وأبوَّةٌ ترِدُ الحياضَ وتنتهي
At every bend, motherhood dies,
At every turn a motherhood dies
And fatherhood comes to the watering pools and meets its end.
And a fatherhood returns to the loins and ends

Woe to souls when death clings to them
Woe to the souls when they are seized by ruin
With a lovesick one's yearning, or they cling to it.
In the madness of anxiety or clinging to it

They kneel, kissing its heels, hoping
May escape the life they do not desire.
To be saved from a life they do not desire

Some ewes sleep with empty bellies,
Some of the sheep sleep hugging the scrub
While their shepherds amuse themselves amid pleasures.
While their shepherds indulge in pleasures
