They shut the door and said, "Perhaps we
They bolted the door and said, "Thus
can ward off the enemies' advance from here."
we can avoid the enemy's onslaught from here."

جَعَلتْ لليَأسِ منْهمْ مَسْكَنا
The screams of fear within their entrails
Their screams of fear
made of them a dwelling for despair.
made despair for them a dwelling.

ليْسَ بالأحلامِ تُصْطادُ المنى
A lie! They have not reached their refuge;
It's a lie - they didn't reach their refuge.
it is not through dreams that wishes are caught.
One cannot hunt wishes through dreams.
أتُراهمْdo you suppose they جَهلواthey were unaware أنَّthat لَناfor us
أتُراهمْ جَهلوا أنَّ لَنا

فوقَ هاماتِ المَنايا مَوْطِنا؟
Do you suppose they were unaware that we have
Could they not know that we have
a homeland above the heads of death?
a dwelling place beyond the skulls of death?
