حجبوا الأضواءَ عَنَّا حَسَدا

حجبوا الأضواءَ عَنَّا حَسَدا

وأقاموها عَلَيْنا رَصَدا

They withheld the lights from us out of envy,

They hid the lights from us out of envy

And set them as sentinels over us.

And set them up over us as an ambush

سَرَقوا اللُّقْمةَ من أفْواهنا

كيْ نعيشَ العُمْرَ جوعاً وصَدى

كيْ نعيشَ العُمْرَ جوعاً وصَدى

They stole the morsel from our mouths,

They stole the morsel from our mouths

So we would live our whole lives in hunger and thirst.

So we live our lives hungry and denied

حَمَلوا الرِّجْسَ على أكتافهم

حَمَلوا الرِّجْسَ على أكتافهم

وحَمَلْنا في المُلِمَّاتِ النَّدى

وحَمَلْنا في المُلِمَّاتِ النَّدى

They bore filth upon their shoulders,

They carried vileness upon their shoulders

And amid calamities, we bore generosity.

While we carried purity in dire straits

وكتبنا في سجلات المدى

وكتبنا في سجلات المدى

أنَّنا في ساحةِ الحَرْبِ الرَّدى

أنَّنا في ساحةِ الحَرْبِ الرَّدى

And we wrote in the annals of time's expanse

And we wrote in the registers of time

That on the battlefield, we are death.

That we are in the arena of perilous war
