    تحز جوائز تغني كلماحين

    They said to me: Turn to the doors of sultans;

    you will gain gifts that enrich you from time to time.

    So I said: My Lord suffices me, and I am content with Him.

    And I am content with nothing but knowledge and religion.

    And I neither hope in nor fear anyone but my King,

    for He—exalted is He—enriches me and saves me.

    How could I entrust my affairs to those who are powerless

    to manage their own affairs, helpless as the destitute?

    Or how could love of worldly dross drive me to

    the neighborhood of those whose homes are homes of devils?

    If I am sorrowful or have a need,

    I call upon the Lord of the Throne—‘ayn before rā’ and shīn.

    وهوالمكون ماشاء أي تكوين

    And He is the Helper, for whom nothing is impossible;

    and He brings into being whatever He wills, in any manner.

    أو شاء تأجيله يبطأ إلى حين

    If He wills to hasten a matter, it comes swiftly;

    or if He wills its postponement, it is delayed for a time.

    O you who blame me, do not persist; cease reproaching me,

    for I am not grieved by losing the world.

    If my fault is detachment from their worldly dross,

    then that is a precious fault that does not disgrace me.
