Where is my counsel to you, and where is my warning?
O people, leaders and rulers alike!
قربتhas drawn near ساعةthe hour القضاءjudgment وأنتمwhile you
قربت ساعة القضاء وأنتم
تترامونyou pelt one another بالحصىwith pebbles فيat الولائمْthe banquets
تترامون بالحصى في الولائمْ
The hour of judgment has drawn near, while you
pelt one another with pebbles at banquets.
كلكمevery one of you يبتغيseeks نصيباًa share منof السلpower (first part of السلطان)
كلكم يبتغي نصيباً من السل
طانpower (completion of السلطان) والجاهand prestige والغريمwhile the adversary يساومْbargains
طان والجاه والغريم يساومْ
Every one of you seeks a share of power
and prestige, while the adversary bargains.
كدتمُyou nearly تحملونyou carry مصرEgypt إليهto him
كدتمُ تحملون مصر إليه
وهوwhile he بينamong الجميعeveryone بالأمرof affairs قائمin charge
وهو بين الجميع بالأمر قائم
You nearly carried Egypt to him,
while he, among you all, is in charge of affairs.
