وسئمتand grew weary of أغمادَهاtheir sheaths السيوفُthe swords
The delay and procrastination filled him with misgivings,
And delay and procrastination troubled him,
And the swords had grown weary of their sheaths.
and the swords grew weary of their sheaths.

So he opened the battle in the name of God,
So he began battle in God's name,
While the Kaiser strutted amid his revels.
while the Tsar strutted amid the revels.

But the cry of the opportunist distracted him
And the opportunist's cry distracted him
From the music and the pleasure of the ballroom.
from music and pleasure in the dance hall.

And he cried: Oh, the treachery! Oh, for vengeance!
I never knew that this was under way.
I did not know that this was happening.

O my heroic people, were it not for my weakness,
O my heroic people, were it not for my weakness,
I would have placed my advance in the foremost rank.
I would have advanced in the foremost rank.
لئنeven if ضعفناwe grew weak فيamid عبابthe billows of البحرِthe sea
فسوفَthen will نقوىwe grow strong فيin يبابthe barrenness of البرِّthe land
Though we proved weak amid the surging sea,
Even if we have grown weak amid the sea's billows,
We shall grow strong upon the barren land.
then we shall grow strong on the barren land.

Though the fleet has gone to join the whales,
And if the fleet has gone to join the whales,
The lions are making ready in the field.
then the lions are preparing on the battlefield.

So choke every pass with troops,
And kindle fires upon the snow.
and kindle fires atop the snow.

And chastise this stubborn, defiant one,
And exact a cruel vengeance upon him.
and take harsh vengeance upon him.
وإنand if بداappears العدوانaggression منfrom حليفهِhis ally
فإنناthen indeed we أقوىstronger علىat تصريفهِdealing with him
And should aggression come from his ally,
And if aggression should arise from his ally,
We are more capable of dealing with it.
then we are better able to deal with him.
وماand what عليناupon us لوif فتحناwe conquered الهنداIndia
ثمthen طردناwe expelled القومthe people منهfrom it طرداexpulsion
What would it matter if we conquered India,
And what harm would there be if we conquered India,
Then drove those people utterly from it?
then drove the people out of it altogether?
