ر فألهت عن الحريق الأناما
Out of her tenderness, she hastened to extinguish the fire,
and so distracted the people from the blaze.

دat (final fragment) التناديthe calling to one another ولمand did not يخافواthey fear الضراماthe blazing fire
د التنادي ولم يخافوا الضراما
They faltered before her, though they had not faltered
at the call to one another, nor feared the flames.

وهي منهم مشغولة القلب لا تع
رفshe knows (final fragment) سرّاًa secret فيهاconcerning her لهمof theirs أوor مراماan aim
رف سرّاً فيها لهم أو مراما
And her heart was concerned for them; she did not
know any secret they held concerning her, or any aim.
ياO سليمىSulayma أنقذتyou saved قومكyour people رفقاًgently
يا سليمى أنقذت قومك رفقاً
ورددتand you turned النيرانthe fires برداًcoolness سلاماpeace
ورددت النيران برداً سلاما
O Sulayma, you gently saved your people,
and turned the fires into coolness and peace.
أطفئيquench! الوجدthe yearning منfrom جوانحribs مشتاa yearning lover (first fragment)
أطفئي الوجد من جوانح مشتا
قa yearning lover (final fragment) ثمينprecious يكادhe nearly يقضيdies غراماfrom passion
ق ثمين يكاد يقضي غراما
Quench the yearning in the breast of a longing lover,
a precious one, who nearly dies of passion.
