I have been true to my homelands with the honor of a devoted man

who has grown accustomed to suffering on the paths of honor.

وإني لأستغني بسبع سنابل

مفرقة لو كنت ألتمس الرزقا

مفرقة لو كنت ألتمس الرزقا

And I would indeed need no more than seven ears of grain,

scattered about, if I were seeking sustenance.

سأسعى وما أرجو السلامة في المدى

وهل يضمن الميدان من ضمن السبقا

I shall strive, expecting no safety on the course;

and can the arena guarantee safety to whoever has secured the lead?

أيهدأ بالي أو تلين مضاجعي

وإن خطوب الترك أهون ما ألقى

وإن خطوب الترك أهون ما ألقى

Can my mind grow calm, or my beds grow soft,

while the Turks' ordeals are the least of what I face?
