أهنِّئI congratulate نفسيmyself والبلادand the country وأهلهاand its people
أهنِّئ نفسي والبلاد وأهلها
ببرئكon your recovery والدنياand the world الجديدةnew بعدَهُafter it
ببرئك والدنيا الجديدة بعدَهُ
I congratulate myself, the country, and its people
on your recovery and the new world that follows it.
طلعتyou rose طلوعthe rising of البدرthe full moon بعدafter احتجابهits concealment
طلعت طلوع البدر بعد احتجابه
وجئتand you came مجيءthe coming of السيفthe sword فارقhaving left غمدَهُits sheath
وجئت مجيء السيف فارق غمدَهُ
You rose as the full moon rises after its concealment,
and came like a sword that has left its sheath.
ونلتand you received علىin accordance with قدرthe extent of الضنىthe suffering حقthe rightful due أجرهits reward
ونلت على قدر الضنى حق أجره
وماand how كانit was أقساهcruel it was ضنىa suffering وأشدَّهُand severe it was
وما كان أقساه ضنى وأشدَّهُ
And you received, in proportion to your suffering, its due reward.
And how cruel a suffering it was, and how severe!
وصابرتand you patiently endured بلواهits ordeal إلىuntil أنthat تكشفتit lifted
وصابرت بلواه إلى أن تكشفت
كماjust as صابرstood firm against الملكthe king المغيرthe invader فردّهthen drove him back
كما صابر الملك المغير فردّه
And you patiently endured its ordeal until it lifted,
as the king stood firm against the invader and drove him back.
أراكI see you لقوميfor my people فيin الحمىthe protected homeland وكأننيand as though I
أراك لقومي في الحمى وكأنني
أرىI see قائدthe commander of النصرvictory المبينmanifest وجندهand his troops
أرى قائد النصر المبين وجنده
I see you in the homeland, there for my people, as though I
see the commander of manifest victory and his troops.
وفضلكand your generosity فضلthe generosity of المستعانone whose aid is sought علىthroughout المدىtime
وفضلك فضل المستعان على المدى
رأىhe saw المستعينthe seeker of aid المرتضىthe worthy فأمدهso he supported him
رأى المستعين المرتضى فأمده
And your generosity is that of one ever sought for aid,
who saw the worthy seeker of aid and supported him.
ومنand he whom عاودتهhas revisited him صحةhealth العمرa lifetime كلهall of it
ومن عاودته صحة العمر كله
فقدthen indeed دفعhe repelled الأعداءthe enemies عنaway from مصرEgypt وحدهhe alone
فقد دفع الأعداء عن مصر وحده
And he to whom lifelong health has returned
has indeed driven the enemies away from Egypt single-handed.
ومنand he who آثرfavored الأكفاءthe capable واختارand chose واصطفىand singled out
ومن آثر الأكفاء واختار واصطفى
رأىhe saw كلevery يومday فيin المحامدpraiseworthy deeds ندهhis equal
رأى كل يوم في المحامد نده
And he who favored the capable, chose them, and singled them out
saw his equal in praiseworthy deeds each day.
وحسبكand enough for you أنthat أعددتyou prepared نفسكyourself قدوةa model
وحسبك أن أعددت نفسك قدوة
لمنfor one whom أنتyou راضare content مثلهاlike it أنto تعُدَّهcount him
لمن أنت راض مثلها أن تعُدَّه
And it is enough for you that you prepared yourself as a model
for one you are content to count as your equal.
وأنتand you حبيبthe beloved of الشعبthe people تحييyou revive حياتهtheir life
وأنت حبيب الشعب تحيي حياته
وعندكand with you ماwhat يرجوthey hope for وترجوهand you hope for it عندهwith them
وعندك ما يرجو وترجوه عنده
And you are the people's beloved, reviving their life,
and you have what they hope for, and you hope for it in them.
