س كبيراً ونعمة غراءَ
Indeed, electricity confers a boon upon people—
a great one—and a radiant blessing.

سخرت من طبيعة الكون للحا
ضرcompletion of 'present-day people' ماwhat كانhad أعجزbaffled القدماءَthe ancients
ضر ما كان أعجز القدماءَ
From the universe's nature, it has harnessed for people today
what had baffled the ancients.
ولهاand it has فيin العلاجhealing آيةthe miracle عيسىJesus
ولها في العلاج آية عيسى
حينماwhen بدلhe changed الفناءdeath بقاءcontinued life
حينما بدل الفناء بقاء
And in healing it has the miracle of Jesus,
when he turned death into life.

نشر الطب نفعها مثلما تن
شرcompletion of 'it spreads' فيin سائرall الفضاءspace الضياءlight
شر في سائر الفضاء الضياء
Medicine has spread its benefit, just as it spreads
light throughout all space.
فإذاso if أعجزbaffles الأطباءthe physicians داءa disease
فإذا أعجز الأطباء داء
معضلintractable فليحكِّمواthen let them appoint as arbiter الكهرباءelectricity
معضل فليحكِّموا الكهرباء
So if a disease baffles the physicians—
an intractable one—let them make electricity the arbiter.
فكمfor how often استرجعتit restored حياةthe life عليلa sick person
فكم استرجعت حياة عليل
بسواهاby anything other than it ماnot كانwas يرجوhoping for شفاءrecovery
بسواها ما كان يرجو شفاء
For it has so often restored the life of a sick person
who had no hope of recovery by any other means.
أوجبتit secured للطبيبfor the physician عيدٍEid رضىapproval أبsons (first fragment)
أوجبت للطبيب عيدٍ رضى أب
ناءcompletion of 'sons' مصرEgypt وحبَّهمand their love والثناءand praise
ناء مصر وحبَّهم والثناء
It has won Doctor Eid the approval of the sons
of Egypt, their love, and their praise.
سبقhe surpassed الكلَّeveryone فيin العلاجtreatment بهاwith it ثُمthen (first fragment)
سبق الكلَّ في العلاج بها ثُم
مcompletion of 'then' رأيناهwe saw him قدوةan example to follow حسناءbeautiful

He surpassed everyone in treatment with it; then
we saw him as a fine example.
