For an auspicious, radiant, happy year,

In which the land has new hope.

هذي لياليه الحسان تجمّلت

هذي لياليه الحسان تجمّلت

للمسلمين كأنما هي غيد

للمسلمين كأنما هي غيد

These lovely nights of its have adorned themselves

For Muslims, as though they were graceful maidens.

وأخوه لاقته النصارى طالعاً

وأخوه لاقته النصارى طالعاً

معه كما صحب النديد نديد

معه كما صحب النديد نديد

And the Christians welcomed its brother as it rose

With it, as one peer accompanies another.

جمعت قلوب الملتين يداهما

جمعت قلوب الملتين يداهما

وتفاءل التثليث والتوحيد

وتفاءل التثليث والتوحيد

Their hands united the hearts of the two faiths,

And Trinity and divine Oneness took heart.

وكأنما هذا الهلال طليعة

وكأنما هذا الهلال طليعة

تتقدم الآمال وهي وفود

تتقدم الآمال وهي وفود

And this crescent seems a vanguard

Marching before hopes that come as delegations,

تُزجَى كما تُزجَى إليك مواكبٌ

تُزجَى كما تُزجَى إليك مواكبٌ

في مهرجان أو تسير جنود

في مهرجان أو تسير جنود

Led onward as processions are led to you

At a festival, or as troops march.

وإذا أردت فكل واد جنة

وإذا أردت فكل واد جنة

وإذا أمرت فكل يوم عيد

وإذا أمرت فكل يوم عيد

And if you wish, every valley is a paradise;

And if you command, every day is a feast.

وضيوف مصر منحتهم فملكتهم

وضيوف مصر منحتهم فملكتهم

فغدوا وكلهم إليك ودود

فغدوا وكلهم إليك ودود

And you bestowed gifts on Egypt's guests and won them over,

So every one of them became affectionate toward you.

ورأوا طريقك سمحة مأمونة

ورأوا طريقك سمحة مأمونة

وتبينوا مرماك وهو بعيد

وتبينوا مرماك وهو بعيد

And they saw your path as gracious and secure,

And discerned your aim, distant though it was.

لهمُ رحيق النيل مطَّرد ومن

أخلاق شعبك سلسل مورود

أخلاق شعبك سلسل مورود

For them the Nile's nectar flows steadily, and from

Your people's virtues comes sweet water to drink.

نعموا بطَيِّبِه وأشهدهم على

غاياته برهانُه المشهود

غاياته برهانُه المشهود

They enjoyed its goodness, and were made witnesses to

Its aims by its manifest proof.

لو راضت المرّيد خلته اغتدى

لو راضت المرّيد خلته اغتدى

ملكاً كريماً ذلك المرّيد

ملكاً كريماً ذلك المرّيد

Were these virtues to tame the rebel, you would think he had become

A noble angel—that very rebel.

السلم عدته وعدة غيره

نار كثير شرها وحديد

نار كثير شرها وحديد

Peace is his armament; the armament of others

Is fire whose harm is great, and iron.

وأجل قادته هداك وذكره

وأجل قادته هداك وذكره

ما نال آباء وحاز جدود

ما نال آباء وحاز جدود

And foremost among his commanders are your guidance and his remembrance

Of what fathers attained and forefathers won.

يا من له سلطان مصر وعرشها

يا من له سلطان مصر وعرشها

ولواؤها ورواقها الممدود

ولواؤها ورواقها الممدود

O you who possess Egypt's sovereignty and her throne,

And her banner and her outspread canopy,

وابن الذين استخلفوك مزوداً

وابن الذين استخلفوك مزوداً

تبنى على آثارهم وتشيد

تبنى على آثارهم وتشيد

And son of those who made you their successor, well equipped,

You build upon their legacy and raise edifices.

فمن النبي لك المحبة والرضى

فمن النبي لك المحبة والرضى

ومن الإله لعزمك التأييد

ومن الإله لعزمك التأييد

So from the Prophet come love and approval for you,

And from God, support for your resolve.

وإذا امتطيت الدهر فيما تمتطي

وإذا امتطيت الدهر فيما تمتطي

فعلى الغداة المأرب الموعود

فعلى الغداة المأرب الموعود

And when, among your mounts, you mount Time,

Then by morning comes the promised goal.

ألف السلامة والفلاح مجاهد

يتعجل الآمال وهو رشيد

يتعجل الآمال وهو رشيد

A striver has grown familiar with safety and success,

Who hastens to fulfill his hopes while remaining wise.
