Your deed of yesterday suffices the nation as witness

And proof of the fine work you will do tomorrow.

Those drawn to your unfettered judgment came forward,

Taking turns in offering praise and veneration.

They bore their allegiance to you in an assembly

Where you repaid kindness with kindness.

And made that long-stalling procrastinator wait in turn.

A bond of kinship with you, which they faithfully honor—as often

As you have honored your kinship with them, with favor and acceptance.

The nation's burden and its solemn charge, for which you answer,

In every capital and every city,

You have a call that turns the enemy into a friend.

You proclaimed it auspicious; it was as though

A revelation borne by the orator as its messenger.

As though they had hastened for refuge to Gabriel—

One more beneficent than he who freed the captives of a nation

That hopes Egypt may possess an army and a fleet.

He who charged you with the affairs of His servants

Appointed you over this generation for generations to come.

Never to heed a faultfinder where their comrades were concerned.

    وكفى بميثاق الخطيب كفيلا

    I bring the people glad tidings of their independence;

The orator's covenant is guarantor enough.
