Are you compassionate, that I may tell you what afflicts me?
Will you show mercy, so I may tell you what ails me,
Or do you still rebuke the one who complains?
Or do you still rebuke the one who complains?

خصماً ألدَّ ولا رقيباً واشيا
If I could keep silent, I would never let
If I could conceal it, I would give no cause to gloat over me
a bitter foe or watchful informer gloat over me.
To a bitter foe or a tale-bearing watcher.

تشفي الجوانح أو تحين وفاتيا
I would endure until I won a single glance
And I would endure until I won a glance
to heal my inmost heart—or until my death arrived.
To heal my breast, or until my death came.

If you held authority and came to intercede
If I had the power to judge and you came to intercede
for a shackled killer, he would escape alive.
For the shackled killer, he would be saved.

Among the enemies, I would turn away from my desires.

Your favor toward me, a lover utterly devoted,
And your approval of me as an utterly devoted lover
is sweeter to me than victory as a conqueror.
Is sweeter to me than my victory as a conqueror.

أدركت هذا الراكع المتراميا
What harm would it do this gracious countenance if
What would it cost this gracious face if
it noticed this kneeling figure cast down before you?
You rescued this kneeling man who has flung himself down?

Indeed, I have made my wife a sacrifice for you
And indeed, I made my wife a sacrifice for you,
and come to you imploring, addressing you in prayer.
And came to you imploring, whispering my plea.

ذهبت ولو حمِّلت طوداً عاليا
I have forsaken my repose—which, but for you,
And I forsook my peace, which, but for you, would not
would not have left me though I bore a towering mountain—
Have vanished, even had I been made to bear a towering mountain.

And I turned my innermost thoughts away from this world,
remaining empty of all but the torment you inflict.
And remained empty of all but the torment you cause.

Surely I shall suffer longing until you show me mercy,
I shall surely endure love's anguish until you take pity,
and surely give you everything precious and dear.
And I shall surely give you what is precious and dear.

O Urzil, show tenderness, and ask
whatever you wish, if even my heart does not suffice you.
For whatever you wish, if you are not content with my heart.
