لهوَthe revelry of المؤمِّلِone hoping for أطولَthe longest الآجالِlifespans
لهوَ المؤمِّلِ أطولَ الآجالِ
Abd al-Aziz, why do you revel in youthful pleasures,
like one who hopes for the longest span of life?
وإلامَand until when? تسمعyou listen to مطربيكyour singers وقدwhile already علاhas risen
وإلامَ تسمع مطربيك وقد علا
صوتthe voice of النذيرthe warner بأعجلof the most imminent الأهوالterrors
صوت النذير بأعجل الأهوال
And how long will you listen to your singers, when already ringing out is
the warner’s voice, warning of the most imminent terrors?
فلقدfor indeed أجرتهمُyou hired them ثلاثةthree أشهرٍmonths
فلقد أجرتهمُ ثلاثة أشهرٍ
هلاwhy did you not? أجرتهمyou hired them ثلاثthree ليالnights
هلا أجرتهم ثلاث ليال
For you have indeed hired them for three months;
