  1. عبد العزيز مملَّكٌ

    مستسلمٌ لهوى الشبابْ

    Abd al-Aziz is enthroned,

    Yielding to the passions of youth.

  2. لكنه ذو أهبةٍ

    أمن العدوَّ بها وطاب

    Yet he is well equipped;

    With it he felt safe from the enemy and was at ease.

  3. ماذا عليه لو رمى ال

    باغي بأقداح الشراب

    What blame is his if he pelts the

    aggressor with goblets of wine,

  4. وسواه يرمي بالتعا

    ويذ العداة وبالكتاب

    while another pelts with talis-

    mans the foes, and with the Book?
