ماhow أجهلignorant الأبthe father لوif ربَّىraised ابنهhis son ترفاًin luxury
ما أجهل الأب لو ربَّى ابنه ترفاً
ولمand did not يكلهentrust him لأستاذto a teacher وأظلَمَهُand how unjust he is
ولم يكله لأستاذ وأظلَمَهُ
How ignorant a father is if he raises his son in luxury,
And does not entrust him to a teacher—and how unjust he is!
يعطيهgives him ماwhat يشتهيhe desires إذwhen قامbegan ينذرهthreatening him
يعطيه ما يشتهي إذ قام ينذره
بالانتحارwith suicide وكانand had الخوفfear أرغمهcompelled him
بالانتحار وكان الخوف أرغمه
He gives him whatever he desires when the son begins threatening him
With suicide, fear having forced the father to yield.
أراهI see him أشبهresembling منone who يعطيgives to المشعوذthe charlatan إذwhen
أراه أشبه من يعطي المشعوذ إذ
يجريmakes flow دماءblood ابنهhis son وهماunder a delusion ليرحمهto show him mercy
يجري دماء ابنه وهما ليرحمه
I see him as resembling one who pays a charlatan when
He makes his son's blood flow, mistakenly thinking he is showing him mercy.
