عذيريmy defender منagainst الدنياthe world كريمٌa generous man دعوتهI called upon him
فلبّىso he answered دعائيmy call واستجابand he responded to رجائيmy hope
My defender against the world is a generous man I called upon;
So he answered my call and granted my hope.
فإنfor if يولنيhe grants me المعروفkindness كانwould be هناؤهhis joy
بإسدائيin bestowing on me المعروفkindness مثلlike هنائيmy joy
For if he grants me a kindness, his joy
In bestowing that kindness on me equals mine.
وإنand if أثنI praise كيso that أقضيI repay ديونdebts جميلهhis kindness
عَليَّupon me رأىhe regards ديناًa debt عليهupon him ثنائيmy praise
And if I praise him to repay the debts his kindness lays
Upon me, he counts my praise as a debt he owes.
فَعَنِّيso on my behalf لهfor him منfrom نفسهhis own self طالmay be long عمرهhis life
علىfor خيرهhis goodness الجاريflowing أتمthe fullest جزاءreward
So from his own self he has, on my behalf—long may he live—
The fullest reward for his ever-flowing goodness.
