يا شاعر البلد الأمين تحية
يدليoffers إليكto you بهاwith it الرفيقthe companion الذاكرُthe one who remembers
يدلي إليك بها الرفيق الذاكرُ
O poet of the secure city, a greeting
Offered to you by your mindful companion,
ومؤلفand a gatherer الأنصارthe supporters ترجوهمyou hope for them إذاwhen
ومؤلف الأنصار ترجوهم إذا
فقدloses النصيرthe champion علىagainst اللياليthe nights شاعرa poet
فقد النصير على الليالي شاعر
Who also gathers the supporters you hope for when
A poet loses his champion against the nights.
وفَّتْكpaid you in full أجرَكyour reward أمةٌa nation أرضيتَهاyou pleased it
وفَّتْك أجرَك أمةٌ أرضيتَها
واليومand today وفاكgave you your due الوزيرthe minister الكابرeminent
واليوم وفاك الوزير الكابر
A nation you pleased has paid you your reward,
And today the eminent minister has given you your due.
نعمىa blessing علىupon الشعراءthe poets عباسيةof Abbas
نعمى على الشعراء عباسية
أفضىled إليهاto it فضلكyour excellence المتواترunceasing
أفضى إليها فضلك المتواتر
An Abbasian blessing upon the poets,
To which your unceasing excellence has led.
إنindeed الأحقَّthe most deserving بمنصبٍof an office وبرتبةٍand of a rank
إن الأحقَّ بمنصبٍ وبرتبةٍ
فيin كلevery قطرland ناظمa poet أوor ناثرa prose writer
في كل قطر ناظم أو ناثر
Indeed, the one most deserving of office and rank
In every land is a poet or a prose writer.
