بنى مصطفى كرمتمُ اليوم مصطفى

فأديتمُ حق الأبوة فيهِ

فأديتمُ حق الأبوة فيهِ

O sons of Mustafa, today you have honored Mustafa,

O sons of Mustafa, today you honored Mustafa,

And thereby fulfilled the due owed to his fatherhood.

And so fulfilled toward him the duty owed to a father.

وكنتم له طلابَ خيرِ معلمٍ

وكنتم له طلابَ خيرِ معلمٍ

وكان لكم أرعى أب لبنيه

وكان لكم أرعى أب لبنيه

You were his pupils—the pupils of the finest teacher—

And you were his pupils, he the finest of teachers,

And to you he was the most caring of fathers toward his sons.

And to you he was a father most caring for his sons.

أعدّكمُ في الأمس أحسن نشأة

أعدّكمُ في الأمس أحسن نشأة

وزودكم منه لما سيليه

وزودكم منه لما سيليه

Yesterday he prepared you with the finest upbringing,

Yesterday he prepared you with the finest upbringing,

And from it equipped you for whatever would follow.

And gave you provisions from it for what would follow it.

إليه انتهى فضل الزمان كما انتهى

إليه انتهى فضل الزمان كما انتهى

إلى أخويه قبله وأبيه

إلى أخويه قبله وأبيه

In him the excellence of the age reached its height, just as it had reached

In him the excellence of the age culminated, as it had

His two brothers before him, and his father.

In his two brothers before him, and his father.

وحسبكمُ فيه وجاهة عالم

وحسبكمُ فيه وجاهة عالم

من الدين والدنيا وعلم وجيه

من الدين والدنيا وعلم وجيه

Enough distinction for you in him is the standing of a scholar

And in him you have enough: a scholar's eminence

Of religion and the world, and the learning of a man of standing.

In religion and worldly affairs, and an eminent man's learning.

إذا قرَّ حكمُ الشعب في حكمائه

إذا قرَّ حكمُ الشعب في حكمائه

فقد قر في أربابه وذويه

فقد قر في أربابه وذويه

When the people’s governance rests with its wise men,

When the people's rule rests with their wise men,

Then it has indeed come to rest with its masters and its own.

Then indeed it rests with its masters and rightful holders.

وما الجاه إلا ما أتى لمروءة

وما الجاه إلا ما أتى لمروءة

وعاد بذكر في البلاد نبيه

وعاد بذكر في البلاد نبيه

Prestige is only that which comes of noble character

And prestige is only what comes of noble character

And yields illustrious renown throughout the lands.

And yields an illustrious name throughout the land.
