وكان صبانا يملأ الكون فرحة

يصورها فى خاطر الغيب رسام

And our youth filled the universe with joy,

Which a painter portrayed in the mind of the unseen.

تسابق فيك المغرمون وقسّمت

حظوظ فمظلوم لديك وظلام

Lovers vied for you, and were allotted

Their lots: with you, one wronged, another an oppressor.

تخلفت دون السّابقين وخانني

إلى نبعك المحبوب صبر وإقدام

I lagged behind the frontrunners, and was betrayed,

On the way to your beloved spring, by patience and courage.

وفى كل شئ هاهنا منك فكرة

وملئ خيالي منك وحى وإلهام

And in everything here is a thought of you,

And my imagination is filled with revelation and inspiration from you.

فاغفوا على وهم اللقاء سويعة

وأصحوا وما بينى وبينك أعوام
