ياO بعيداًfar عنfrom وداديmy love
يا بعيداً عن ودادي
O you who are near in my heart,
O my beloved in my heart
O you who are far from my love,
O distant from my affection
قلتI said ياO غايةgoal مُراديmy desire
قلت يا غاية مُرادي
واصلنيgrant me union ياO مليحfair one
واصلني يا مليح
I said: O goal of my desire,
I said, O ultimate desire
Grant me union, O fair one.
Reunite with me, O beautiful one
قامrose يسقيserves الراحthe wine بَدريmy full moon
قام يسقي الراح بَدري
وبغُصنِand a branch of البانthe bān tree يُزريhe puts to shame
وبغُصنِ البان يُزري
My full moon rose to serve wine,
He rose to water the early full moon
And puts a bān-tree branch to shame.
And with the branch of frankincense, he sprinkled
قلتُI said ياO روحيmy soul وعمريand my life
قلتُ يا روحي وعمري
واصلنيgrant me union ياO مليحfair one
واصلني يا مليح
I said: O my soul and my life,
I said, O my soul and my life
Grant me union, O fair one.
Reunite with me, O beautiful one
ياO مليحاًfair one فيin عُلاهhis loftiness
يا مليحاً في عُلاه
يحسدenvies البدرthe full moon سناهhis radiance
يحسد البدر سناه
O fair one in his loftiness,
O beautiful in his splendor
The full moon envies his radiance.
The full moon envies his brilliance
ليسَthere is not فيin القلبthe heart سواهanyone other than him
ليسَ في القلب سواه
واصلنيgrant me union ياO مليحfair one
واصلني يا مليح
There is no one in the heart but him.
None but him in the heart
Grant me union, O fair one.
Reunite with me, O beautiful one
إنindeed بدريmy full moon قدhas تجلىshone forth
إن بدري قد تجلى
سلبَstole العقلَreason ووَلَّىand turned away
سلبَ العقلَ ووَلَّى
Indeed, my full moon has shone forth,
For my full moon has shone
Stole reason and turned away.
It has captured reason and departed
هكذاthus الصبُّthe lovesick lover يُخَلَّىis abandoned
هكذا الصبُّ يُخَلَّى
واصلنيgrant me union ياO مليحfair one
واصلني يا مليح
Thus the lovesick lover is abandoned.
Thus free-flowing passion
Grant me union, O fair one.
Reunite with me, O beautiful one
قدُّهُhis figure لماwhen تثنيswayed
قدُّهُ لما تثني
سلبَstole الأرواحَthe souls مِنَّاfrom us
سلبَ الأرواحَ مِنَّا
His figure, when it swayed,
His stature when it sways
Stole our souls from us.
Takes our souls away
رُبَّmany a لحظٍglance فوقَabove وجنَهhis cheek
رُبَّ لحظٍ فوقَ وجنَه
واصلنيgrant me union ياO مليحfair one
واصلني يا مليح
Many a glance above his cheek,
Many a glance above his cheeks
Grant me union, O fair one.
