  1. ثلاثة أشياء فروح مضاعةٍ

    ورابعها أيضاً تضمن في الكتب

    Three things—and so a soul is squandered;

    And their fourth is also included in the books:

  2. فدين بلا عقل ومال بلا ندىً

    وعشقٌ بلا وصلٍ وبعد بلا قرب

    Thus, faith without reason, and wealth without generosity;

    And passionate love without union, and distance without nearness.
