هَاكَtake قَلْبِmy heart فَسِرْthen journey بِهِwith it
هَاكَ قَلْبِ فَسِرْ بِهِ
لِلحْمِىَto the sanctuary دُونَshort of سَرْبهِits gazelle herd
لِلحْمِىَ دُونَ سَرْبهِ
Take my heart, and journey with it
to the sanctuary, short of its gazelle herd.
فَلَكَمْfor how many فِيin خَيَامِهِits tents
فَلَكَمْ فِي خَيَامِهِ
مِنْof فَقِيدٍone bereft لِقَلْبِهِof his heart
مِنْ فَقِيدٍ لِقَلْبِهِ
For how many in its tents
are bereft of their hearts!
وَتَعرَّضْand expose yourself بِذَىat Dhu النَّقَاal-Naqa
وَتَعرَّضْ بِذَى النَّقَا
لِلصِّبَاto the east wind فيِin مَهَبِّهِits place of blowing
لِلصِّبَا فيِ مَهَبِّهِ
And at Dhu al-Naqa, open yourself
to the east wind where it blows.
فَهْوَfor it is نَشْرٌa fragrance مُعَطَّرٌperfumed
فَهْوَ نَشْرٌ مُعَطَّرٌ
بِشَذَاwith the sweet scent of نَشْرِthe perfume of عُرْبِهِits Arab folk
بِشَذَا نَشْرِ عُرْبِهِ
For it is a perfumed fragrance,
with the sweet scent of its Arab folk's perfume.
وَإِذَاand when مَاfor emphasis دَعَاكَhe calls you
وَإِذَا مَا دَعَاكَ
دَاعِيthe herald of هَوَاهُمْlove for them فَلَبِّهِthen answer him
دَاعِي هَوَاهُمْ فَلَبِّهِ
And whenever you are called
by the herald of love for them, answer him.
