لَوْلاَwere it not for الحَيَاءُmodesty وَأَنْand that يُقَالit be said صَبَاhe became lovestruck
I would surely cry out مِلْءَfilling السَّمْعِthe hearing وَاطرَباO rapture!
Were it not for modesty and the fear they'd say, 'He is lovestruck,'
I would cry out for all to hear: 'Oh, what rapture!'
حَضَرَhas come الحَبيبُthe beloved وَغابَand has gone حَاسِدُناour envier
مِنْfrom بَعْدِafter طُولِlong duration تَحَجُبveiling وَخَباand concealment
The beloved has come, and our envier has gone,
after long veiling and concealment.
فَاليَوْمَso today أخْلَعُI cast off فِيكَfor your sake ياO أَمَليmy hope
ثَوْبَthe robe الوَقارِof dignity وَأطْرَحُand cast aside الرُّتَباthe ranks
So today, for you, O my hope, I cast off
the robe of dignity and cast aside ranks.
