يَاO زَمَانَtime of الرِّضَاcontentment لَنَاto us هَلْwill? تَعُودُyou return
وَلأَيَّامِand for the days of وَصْلِنَاour union هَلْwill? تُعِيدُyou restore
O Time of contentment, will you return to us?
O time of contentment, will you return to us?
And will you restore our union to our days?
And will you bring back the days of our union?
وَعُهُودُand the days of الحِمىَthe sanctuary كَمَاjust as قَدْalready عَهِدْنَاwe knew
حَبَذاhow lovely لَوْif تَكُونُwould be تِلْكَthose العُهُودُdays
And the covenants of the sanctuary, just as once we knew them—
And the days of the sanctuary, as we once knew them—
how lovely, if those covenants were as they were!
How lovely it would be if those days returned!
كَمْhow much نَعِيمٍbliss لَنَاfor us بِنُعْمَىwith Nuʿmā تَقَضَّىpassed away
بِوصَالٍin union قَدْalready غَابَwas absent عَنْهُfrom it الحَسُودُthe envious one
How much bliss for us passed in blessed ease,
How much bliss we had with Nuʿmā has passed away,
through a union from which the envier was absent!
In union from which the envious one was absent.

O dear dwellers of the sanctuary, you have alighted in my heart—
O dear folk of the sanctuary, you have settled in my heart—
a paradise for passion, with fuel for its flame.
A paradise for passion, with fuel within it.
