لِمَعْنَايَfor my inward essence قَلْبِيmy heart نَحْوَكُمْtoward you أَبَداًforever يَصْبُوyearns
وَعِنْدِيand within me لَكُمْfor you وَجْدٌlonging جَمِيعِيmy whole being لَهْto it نَهْبُprey
For my inward essence, my heart forever yearns toward you.
And within me is longing for you, to which my whole being is prey.
وَمَاand not زَالَceased سَلْبِbeing despoiled فَيكُمُfor your sake وَاجِباًobligatory لَكُمْfor you

And being despoiled for your sake has always been your due;
And in love of you, O my masters, despoiling is required.
غَدَاhas become وَصْفُكُمْyour description لِلْحُسْنِfor beauty ذَاتاًan essence فَشَمْسُكُمْso your sun
بكُمْthrough you مِنْكُمُfrom you فِيْكُمْin you لَهَاto it الشَّرْقُthe East والغَرْبُand the West
Your description has become beauty's very essence; so your sun—
Through you, from you, in you—has the East and the West.
تُحَرِّكُهَاmoves it الأَشْوَاقُthe longings نَحْوَtoward جَمَالِكُمْyour beauty
فَتَمْنَعُهَاthen restrains it تِلْكَthat المَهَابَةُthe majesty والحُجْبُand the veils
Longings stir it toward your beauty,
Then that majesty and the veils restrain it.
فَلاَهِىso it does not يَغْشَاهَاenvelops it سُكُونٌstillness وَلاَnor تَرىَit sees
سَبِيلاًa path لِذَاحَاَرتْthus it grew bewildered فَدَاَرتْso it revolved فَلاَso not تَنْبُوit strays
So no stillness envelops it, nor does it see
A path; thus it grew bewildered and revolved, never straying.
تَدُورُit revolves عَلَىat بُعْدٍa distance مِنَfrom المَرْكَزِthe center الَّذِيwhich
بِهِin it أَنْتُمُyou إِذْsince كَانَwas شَخْصَكُمْyour person القُطْبُthe pole
It revolves at a distance from the center where
You are, since your very person was the pole.
فَلَوْso if قِيْسَتْwere measured الأَبْعَادُthe distances مِنْfrom كُلِّevery جَانِبٍside
تَسَاوَتْthey would be equal فَلاَso neither بُعْدٌdistance يُرَامُis sought وَلاَnor قُرْبُnearness
So if the distances were measured from every side,
They would be equal, so neither distance nor nearness is sought.
