أَبَاO father of مُنذرٍMundhir جازيتَyou repaid بِالوِدِّfor affection سُخطةًdispleasure
أَبَا مُنذرٍ جازيتَ بِالوِدِّ سُخطةً
فَمَاذاwhat, then جَزاءُthe reward of المُبغِضِone who hates المتَبَغِّضِone who makes himself hated
فَمَاذا جَزاءُ المُبغِضِ المتَبَغِّضِ
O Abu Mundhir, you repaid affection with displeasure.
You rewarded Abā Munthir with affection despite his anger,
What, then, is the reward of one who hates and makes himself hated?
So what is the reward for the hater, the hating one?
فجازَيَتهُso you repaid him فيin ذاthis المِثَالِpattern كَرامَةًhonor
فجازَيَتهُ في ذا المِثَالِ كَرامَةً
ولَستَand you are not لِشَيءٍto anything بَعدُthereafter بِالُمتعَرِّضِat all exposing yourself
ولَستَ لِشَيءٍ بَعدُ بِالُمتعَرِّضِ
So, following this pattern, you repaid him with honor,
You rewarded him with this example out of nobility,
and you will expose yourself to nothing thereafter.
And you are no longer inclined to anything after this.
