Ah, my night and day have grown long!

Ah, who will carry word from me to al-Nu'man,

Openly, for secret talk is no more,

That man was not made of iron,

Nor a rocky mountain that hyraxes shun,

But like a flame—there he burns out,

And death's driver never strays from him?

Then is anyone immortal if we perish?

And is there shame in death, O people?
