وكِسرَىand Kisra إذwhen تَقَسَّمَهُdivided him among themselves بَنُوهُhis sons
وكِسرَى إذ تَقَسَّمَهُ بَنُوهُ
بِأَسَيافٍwith swords كَمَاjust as اقتُسِمَwas divided اللَّحَامُthe meat
بِأَسَيافٍ كَمَا اقتُسِمَ اللَّحَامُ
And Kisra, when his sons divided him among themselves
When his sons divided it with swords
With swords, as meat is divided.
As meat is portioned when the feast is spread
تَمَخَّضَتِwent into labor المُنونُFate لَهُfor him بِيَومٍwith a day
تَمَخَّضَتِ المُنونُ لَهُ بِيَومٍ
أَتَىcame ولِكُلِّand for every حامِلَةٍpregnant woman تِمَامُa full term
أَتَى ولِكُلِّ حامِلَةٍ تِمَامُ
Fate labored to bring forth a day for him
Misfortune was delivered of a day for him
That came—and every pregnant woman has her full term.
That came, and for every pregnant woman, her time was full
