لَهُhe has قُصَّةٌa forelock فَشَغَتspread over حاجِبَيهِhis two eyebrows
لَهُ قُصَّةٌ فَشَغَت حاجِبَيهِ
والعَينُand the eye تُبصِرُsees ماwhat فيin الظُّلُمthe darkness
والعَينُ تُبصِرُ ما في الظُّلُم
He has a forelock that spreads over his brows,
and an eye that sees what lies in darkness.
لَهُhe has كَتفَانtwo shoulders عَلاَويَتَانboth high-set
لَهُ كَتفَان عَلاَويَتَان
كَصَفحlike the broad face of أُواليَّةa monument مِنof إرَمstone
كَصَفح أُواليَّة مِن إرَم
He has two high-set shoulders,
like the broad face of a stone monument.
لَهُhe has عُنقٌa neck مِثلَlike جِذعِthe trunk of السَّحوthe towering palm (word continues)
لَهُ عُنقٌ مِثلَ جِذعِ السَّحو
قِ(completes 'the towering palm') وأُذنٌand an ear مُصعَنَّةٌupright and pointed كالقَلَمlike a pen
قِ وأُذنٌ مُصعَنَّةٌ كالقَلَم
He has a neck like the trunk of a towering palm-
tree, and an upright, pointed ear like a pen.
سَليمُsound النُّسُورِthe hoof-frogs إلىdown to حافِرٍa hoof
سَليمُ النُّسُورِ إلى حافِرٍ
وأَرساغُهُand his pasterns لَمnot تُرَمَّلbeen smeared بِدَمwith blood
وأَرساغُهُ لَم تُرَمَّل بِدَم
Sound in his hoof-frogs, right down to the hoof,
and his pasterns have not been smeared with blood.
لَهُhe has ذَنَبٌa tail مثلَlike ذيلِthe train of العَرُوسِthe bride
لَهُ ذَنَبٌ مثلَ ذيلِ العَرُوسِ
عَلَىover سُبَّةٍan anus مثلِlike حُجرِthe rings of اللَّجَمbridles
عَلَى سُبَّةٍ مثلِ حُجرِ اللَّجَم
He has a tail like a bride's train,
over an anus like a bridle-ring.
