فإِنfor if أَمسَيتُI have come to evening مُكتبئاًdejected حَزيناًsad
كَثيرَfull of الهَمِّcare يَشهَدُنيattends me الحِذارُdread
For if evening has found me dejected and sad,
Full of care, with dread attending me,
فَقَدthen indeed بُدِّلتُI was given in exchange ذاكَthat بِنُعمِin place of ease بَالٍmind
وأَيَّامٍand days لَياليهاtheir nights قِصارُshort
Then I have been given that in place of peace of mind,
And days whose nights were short.
