وَمَاand not بَدَأتُwas first to act against خليلاًa close friend لِيof mine أَخَاa brother ثِقَةٍtrust
وَمَا بَدَأتُ خليلاً لِي أَخَا ثِقَةٍ
بِرِيبَةٍwith treachery لاno وَرَبِّby the Lord of الحِلِّthe land outside the sanctuary والَحرَمِand the sanctuary
بِرِيبَةٍ لا وَرَبِّ الحِلِّ والَحرَمِ
And never have I taken the first step against a friend of mine, a trusted brother,
In treachery—no, by the Lord of the land outside the sanctuary and the sanctuary itself.
يَأبَىrefuses to allow لِيَfor me اللهُGod خَونَbetrayal of الأَصفياءtrue friends وإنeven if
يَأبَى لِيَ اللهُ خَونَ الأَصفياء وإن
خانُواthey betray وِداديmy affection لأَنِّيbecause I حاجِزيwhat restrains me كَرَميmy nobility
خانُوا وِدادي لأَنِّي حاجِزي كَرَمي
God will not allow me to betray true friends, even if
They betray my affection, for my nobility restrains me.
