أُطَحطِحُهُI crush him حَتَّىuntil أُضِلَّI make vanish جَخِيفَهُhis boasting
وَيُسرِعُand he speeds فيهِinto him النَّافِذاتِthe piercing ones البَواضِعاthe flesh-cleaving ones
I crush him until I make his boasting vanish,
And he speeds the piercing, flesh-cleaving strokes into him.
فكَيفَso how تَرَونَyou see السَّعيَthe striving أَسأَرhas left behind قِيلُهُhis speech
عَلَىupon نَقَبِcomplexions of الوُجُوهِthe faces سُوداًblack بَراقِعاveils
How, then, do you judge the striving? His speech has left
Black veils upon the faces’ complexions.
أَراهُمI see them بِحَمدِwith praise of اللهِGod بَعدَafter جَخِيفِهِمtheir boasting

I see them, praise be to God, after their boasting—
Their raven fallen when weakness touched it.
