Lebanon, with the ancient cedars and their glory,

in the glances of your snow are narcissi and roses.

Does the consumptive heave a despairing sigh,

while youth's yearning returns, and we return?

And the breezes visit you, their lips perfumed

by lavender's scent, and the hills bow down.

God, what peals of laughter beauty has! And its flock

looks about among the rocks, wandering astray.

And the kid goat's flanks tremble when

gunpowder booms and slaps your mountainside.

And your graceful, lovely daughters leap,

rosy-cheeked—and oh, what cheeks they have!
