«لبنانُ يا وطنَ الغريبِ ومجدِهِ

مجدٌ بناه شبابُكَ المهصورُ
Lebanon, O homeland of the stranger and his glory,
Lebanon, o homeland of the stranger and his glory
A glory built by your oppressed youth;
Glory built by your tattooed youth

The days shatter beneath his sandals,
Days are shattered under his shoes
And recoil from him, their vicissitudes vanquished.
And their adversity is subdued by him

Lebanon, have patience—the calamities are grievous;
Lebanon, patience, though the tribulations are grave
For the noble are patient in the face of calamities.
The noble is patient with tribulations

Say to whoever eyes your mountainside with ambition:
Say to him who aspires to your slopes
Between you and the land stand steadfast wills and breasts.
Below the homelands are shrines and breasts

If you lack the land's lions among men,
If your lions fail you
Then call: freeborn women and maidens will answer you.
Free women and youths will respond to you

To God belongs your mountainside; anemones are its carpet,
To God belong your slopes, and intimacy His carpet
And laurel is a crown, and you a prince.
The cave a wreath, and you a prince

And spring passed by the blossoms and stirred them,
The light passed by it in spring, shaking it
And the mushrooms lie chilled beneath its cloak.
And creation lies under its gown, sewn

And the arar shrub knelt upon the rocks; and indeed be—
The juniper knelt on the rocks; between its branches
—tween its branches are the turtledove and the blackbird.
The silvery moon and starling

And there in the valley is a wandering brook,
There in the valley a wandering brook
Glancing about among the mountains, skittish.
Roaming between the repelling mountains

Morning flutters and bathes in its water,
The dawn bathes in its water
And deep darkness sleeps upon its banks.
And the deer sleep on its banks

And spirits visit it in their wanderings,
The spirits frequent it in their wanderings
And willows and stock flowers shade it.
It is shaded by the willow and sprinkling rain

It has grown familiar with the shepherds, so it does not fear their rababs;
It befriended the shepherds, fearing not their flutes
For their song and the waters' song are a sigh.
Their singing and the flowing water's sigh
