لم يهدها قط الربيع لروضةِ

Its sides are admired for marvels that

Spring has never once bestowed upon a garden.

كتمت روائحها فلما عذبت

بالنار فاح نسيمها فأقرت

It concealed its fragrances, but when it was tortured

By fire, its fragrant breeze spread, and it confessed.

وكأنما الملك الأجل السيد ال

And it is as though the most august king, the lord al-

Mansur, ʿAdud al-Mulk, Taj al-Dawla,

أذكى مجامرها بنار ذكائه

أذكى مجامرها بنار ذكائه

وغدا الدخان على علو الهمة

وغدا الدخان على علو الهمة

Had kindled its censers with the fire of his brilliance,

And the smoke rose to the height of his ambition.
