قد قلت حين افاض أحمد سيبه
ياO شقوةmisery المتشبهينthose modeling themselves بأحمدafter Ahmad
يا شقوة المتشبهين بأحمد
I said, when Ahmad poured forth his bounty:

Alas for those who seek to imitate Ahmad!
Oh, the misery of those who model themselves after Ahmad!
يشرونthey buy مثلthe like of جيادهhis steeds وعبيدهand his slaves
يشرون مثل جياده وعبيده
افيقدرونcan they then علىto ابتياعpurchase السؤددnobility
افيقدرون على ابتياع السؤدد
They buy the like of his steeds and his slaves—
They buy steeds and slaves like his;
but can they purchase greatness?
Can they then purchase nobility?
